Layar collects content from Web2.0 services such as Twitter, Flickr, and location-based services such as, Google local search, and augument these information on your mobile phone. It is a perfect example of how you can support users location-based information need.
Think about this following application:
- advertisement: property, special store offers, hotel and restaurant advertisement.
- reviews: see what people say about a restaurant/pub/cafe before you decide to get in.
- events: announcement about "whats going on" near to where you are
- news: what's happening in your city & near by where you are.
- story telling: city walk tours
- social: go and find people you know or people with the same interest nearby.
Of course there is more to understand about information need than just looking for points of interest based on where you are. Read an in-depth discussion about location-based mobile search here.
